Those of us who believe we have something unique to share with the world need to share it. Sure, there are daily activities like trying to keep a roof over our heads that get in the way sometimes from doing what we really want to do. But I believe that if we really want something, we should make the time to do it.
When it comes to writing our first book, most of us have started writing a process or strategy for better living, then stopped; we’ve written an outline, and then stopped; we’ve created some cool characters, and then stopped; and we have even organized an exciting or humorous plot, and then stopped. Some of the problem is that our goal often focuses on starting the project without planning out what it’s going to take for us to finish it.
I saw the trailer for a new movie that’s coming out this month about two CIA agents that fall in love with the same woman. I thought to myself, how many people came up with that idea for a movie before someone took the idea, wrote it down, and made a movie out of it? How many want-to-be movie writers thought of that scenario and even created some of the scenes in their heads without putting their ideas into paper and making the movie happen? It’s a simple storyline, so I’m sure people who are in the movie-writing business are kicking themselves for not coming up with the idea themselves.
I haven’t been in the online marketing world forever. I had to teach myself how to navigate through Google, GoDaddy, WordPress, Paypal and AWeber just like the rest of you. Then I had an idea. Instead of making everyone go through the painstaking process of figuring out how to use the internet to start their own business, why not write a book with step-by-step instructions?
Although I had never written a book, I decided to write my first book about what I had just learned about starting a business online. It took me a couple of months, but I used the strategies taught by Garrett Pierson in his book ‘How to Write a Book ASAP’ and before long my book was finished. I called it “How to Get Started Online with Less Than $200 Guaranteed.” Now people have a place to go to when they want to start an online business.
All I’m saying is that I think we should do what we want to do without waiting any longer than we already have waited. If we want to write our first book, we shouldn’t just set aside time for tonight. We should set aside time each night for the next two months. We should prepare now to finish, not just start our book.
